Septa artic 7350 may have bullet holes, as a fusillade of bullets maimed high school students in northeast Philadelphia, 3 p.m., March 6, 2024. Nobody inside a bus was struck. This happened near Rising Sun and Cottman Avenues in the neighborhood of Burholme.
-----
As of 3.11.2024, two of four suspects have been apprehended. See lengthy description from WHYY.

I'm still trying to figure out which bus the 8 victims were trying to board, as they seem to have walked a third of a mile along Cottman to board the 67 or 70. By the way, the 16-year-old who received the most bullets is said to have been the intended target.

In streetcar days, I think Rising Sun was route 50. Where was its northern terminus? I think it passed St. William's church. |

Joe:
PTC/SEPTA streetcar line #50 started at Fox Chase on Oxford, then ran along Rising Sun (for a time, the #50 cars shared the rails with the #47, which was bussed in 1969)
The #50 eventually terminated at 6th Street and Oregon Avenue.
The #50 cars were replaced by buses in 1980............

Footnote:
According to what I found online, the #50 was only supposed to be "temporarily" bused, and residents clamored for the return of the streetcars.
But, once the tracks were paved over/ripped out, and the overhead cut down, everyone knew it was all over.
Today's present-day #50 bus runs from the Frankford Transit Center to Parx Casino & Racetrack.
Along with several other lines, #50 streetcars were stabled at the Luzerne car house; today, the old building still stands, but is no longer used by SEPTA......
Footnote:
SEPTA has had a long track record of "temporarily" converting streetcar lines to bus, only to have the streetcars never return.
I recall one streetcar line that had been OOS for some years; SEPTA announced streetcars were coming back, and went through all the expense and effort of re-installing a section of missing track, and putting up new overhead.
Guess what?
The new tracks were later paved over, and the new overhead taken down.
Beyond insanity...............

Joe:
As you know, Philly was still very much of a "streetcar city" until the SEPTA era; SEPTA, right from the get-go, seemed a very "pro rubber" agency.
Recall, though, the rich diversity of both "air cars" and "all-electric" PCCs through the 1970s.
I well recall the massive blaze that destroyed a number of PCCs at the 49th/Woodland car house in 1976 (10 alarms)
Too, think of the many other car houses that once housed the huge streetcar fleet, including Luzerne, 26th/Allegheny, Germantown, 32nd/Ridge, Richmond/Allegheny, Frankford, Kensington.
The present-day subway-surface lines echo the Newark City Subway during its heyday of serving surface cars........

Certainly hope he gets more than the now-universal slap on the wrist and is put away for a good long while, so he cannot harm others............
