"M&G" and "FRANMAR"were two of the "indy" companies that operated the "22"prior to ACADEMY (today, this truncated line is operated by NJT)
You are looking northeast in this 1981 view, taken at Nungessers (I've lived within 5 minutes of this are for nearly 50 years)
Here we see one of M&G's "Dangerfields" (note no rear doors; the Fishbowls on this run also lacked them, and, believe me, they were SORELY needed on this busy run!) heading towards Hoboken)
Note he old line pole on the left (removed about 20 years ago); this pole once supported PSNJ streetcar and ASV overhead.
How many countless times Your's Truly boarded and debarked from a bus at this location, over the years......

Tremont & Boston, 1971.
Clearly, the "Dangerfield" had a more "hefty" look, as compared to the more "lithe" Fishbowls*, though both were rugged and solid........

*IMHO, Fishbowls ALWAYS looked even "tougher" than they were, when the dash was devoid of the "GM"trapezoid........ |

Same location, same year.
Especially when compared to today's oversized milk cartons, the "Dangerfields" indeed look QUITE formidable.......

Way back in the day, suburban "Dangerfields" were rare birds indeed, in the greater "Noo Yawk" area.
This proud-looking "Dangerfield" suburban (seen here in 1971) was operated by "PELHAM PARKWAY EXPRESS"; note, also, the small ad frame behind the rear wheel.
Too, note the destination sign reading: "COACH MANHATTAN"........

Further on early "Dangerfield" suburbans.......
According to "THE BUS WORLD ENCYCLOPEDIA OF BUSES" (Stauss), of the 13,121 New Looks built by Flxible, only 128 were identified by the manufacturer as suburbans.
These buses were only built for two years (1964-1965)*
The "Dangerfield" suburbans were all furnished with forward-facing, high-back seats, parcel racks, and no rear door.
Most (but not all) of these buses were air-conditioned, and were also equipped with underfloor luggage bins.............
*Production of suburban "Dangerfields" began in 1964; in November of that year, the VZ Bridge was opened to traffic.
It would have been interesting had the "Tee-Yay" purchased a group of these buses, to initiate express service over the bridge.

I also thought as much; it just had the look of a bus that still had quite a while to go, before obtaining the familiar "body scars" that were part and parcel of city buses, back in the day...........

Here we have "Dangerfield" #6407 of "PIONEER BUS COMPANY" (signed for the "49 STATEN ISLAND" run), back in 1974, at the Strickland garage; note, also, the "WESTCHESTER STREET TRANSPORTATION" Fishbowl in the background..........
