(continuing discussion on Canadian intercity operations from previous postings)..........
This Canadian intercity operation has a long and interesting history; a few vintage photos are also on this page..........

Here's a particularly handsome 1960's WESTERN FLYER intercity coach; the simple, but smart, paint scheme (at least to me) recalls CONTINENTAL TRAILWAYS' 4104's and 4106's, way back in the day........

There are a number of rare vintage photos on this page.
Of note:
The 1967 "CANUCK 600" (note resemblence to PREVOST)
The 1958 "CANUCK-P41" (GREYHOUND)
Also, note the QUITE distinctive "deck-and-half" coach from 1955!

That “library” has great links further in, including an interesting autobiography by a former Yukon driver and tour guide… |

traildriver:
Given that GREYHOUND is, today, but a mere shadow of its former self, would it surprise you at all if, one day, GREYHOUND disappeared entirely?
Recall, how, over 50 years ago, AMTRAK took over most of the rail passenger operations in the country; now, suppose a new, nationwide bus operation were to take GREYHOUND's place (and, perhaps, in some areas, even expand), or reclaim territory long-abandoned by GREYHOUND?
AMBUS?
NATIONAL AMERICAN BUS NETWORK?
NATIONAL PASSENGER BUS SYSTEM?
I could even see any new "national network" company also taking over whatever private intercity companies remain.
GREYHOUND was ailing even before COVID further cut into the systems finances and operations (recall, DE CAMP recently abandoned all of its New Jersey commuter routes, due to the fact that much ridership had been lost due to COVID, and many former riders continuing to work from home, instead of commuting into the city.
Realistically, AMTRAK has never prospered as a passenger rail operation, nor has it ever turned a profit, even after 52 years.
If AMTRAK (especially outside of the NEC) can barely hold its own, what chances would there be for a new, national, intercity bus network?
Look at the many debates in DC, over the decades, regarding getting needed funding for AMTRAK?
Again, I am only speculating and guessing here, at best...........

I was thinking the SAME thing; I really would have loved to been able to study those old tts, especially the footnotes, which in so many instances, are the most interesting sections of the tt!
