The immensity of the BMT's Park Row terminal is more than evident in these historic views*........

*(Until the BMT el trains ceased running over the Brooklyn Bridge, a direct connection could be made to the 3rd Avenue elevated's adjacent terminal)

And based on the TARS trolley, taken at least up to 1946 (that streetcar gave way to the M-101 Third/Amsterdam line some time in '47).

....if FACL and ST had remained "indy" companies, I often wonder if they would have ordered new buses (Fishbowls and "Dangerfields") with "bowling alley" seating.

Common sense would dictate that such seating would have been ideal for the heaviest runs, especially during the rush hours.

Here in NJ, such seating was unheard of, except back in the PS streetcar days, when many cars were furnished with "bowling alley" seating......

Looks like the "Sherman" overshadowed by that B&QT streetcar was one of the TDH-4510's the "Bee O'Tee" ordered.

W.B.:

From what I understood, the old 9th Avenue car house (now gone many years; I believe a school was later built on the site) did not become a bus garage, after the streetcars stopped running in late 1956, as was usually the case when streetcars replaced buses (then where were the bus routes based that replaced the streetcars?)

PS: GREAT photo of #4401! Wink

Here's an interesting photo showing the former ENY car house sometime in the late 40's, after the streetcars were replaced by buses.

Here we have a B&QT 8000-series Peter Witt passing by the former car house; where once rows of its bretheren once lined up, we now have rows of new MACKS.

Notice that you can still see traces of the old streetcar tracks curving into the old depot, as well as the old line poles.........

While Manhattan, by law, had conduits. Meanwhile, who knew at the time the numeral characters that graced the Witts and PCC's would end up on not only 'Tee-Yay' bus rolling stock, but also MaBSTOA's.
