Here's PCC #1039 at the McDonald/16th loop.

Note the gutted Kensington Junction interlocking tower; originally, this switch tower controlled the connection for BRT El trains running on surface trackage.......

PCC #1074 had the honor of being the very last streetcar to cross the Brooklyn Bridge in early 1950.

Thereafter, there would no longer be any public transportation (of any sort) over the bridge.

This circa-1950 photo is quite rare, as it depicts #1074 running on a "TRIBORO TROLLEY TOUR" fan trip.

These trips were extremely popular with fans, as many of the lines traveled never saw any PCC's in revenue service............

The only times where PCC's were to be seen at the underground Delancey St. station in Lower Manhattan was when they were assigned to a fan trip, especially just after WW2.

This long-forgotten station (consisting of several loops) closed in the late 1940's; for many years, it was the domain of the double-ended 8000-series Peter Witts and the single-ended 6000's............

This interesting (and classic) car house scene shows both PCC's and double-ended 8000's.

As the PCC's were assigned solely to the 9th Avenue depot, I am guessing that the car hose depicted here (unidentified) MIGHT have been at 9th Avenue; if not, then, most certainly, De Kalb.

Note, also, the complexity of the trackage.

As I had noted earlier, the only time that PCC's were seen at another facility (DE KALB) was when they were in for heavy repair.

This timeless photo would seem to date to the late 1940's (the 8000's were retired in 1954).............

Memory can be tricky, but I am certain this chaotic scene is not at the Ninth Avenue car house, either upper level or lower level. I have no recollection of the setting of DeKalb car house.
----
The 4-storey building to the right cancels out the Rockaway Parkway car house, as Church Avenue has 3-storey buildings there. This puzzle is worth posting on a more active message board. Also, by the time PCC's were assigned to Church Avenue, the older cars were gone.
---
Erie Basin had PCC's before my time.

Joe:

Thanks much for your memories and opinions; always appreciated!

To be honest, I had pretty much cancelled out 9th Avenue myself, as I HAVE seen a large number of photos of this facility over the years;

I compared it to the one photo I have of DE KALB in "BROOKLYN TROLLEYS", and this photo didn't "click" all the way either (I thought that the picture I posted might have shown another portion of this car house/shop area).......

Joe:

Just did a bit more "hunting" through my Brooklyn streetcar books, and I DID find a photo of a disabled PCC ( running on the #68 ) being towed to the Canarsie depot for (obviously) non-serious repairs, being towed in by a 4500-series convertible.

So, given this photo, perhaps PCC's DID visit the Canarsie shops, for non-major repairs?

Here, I'm only guessing, but it may provide us with some sort of clue......

"NYO"

(PS: Note the number of PCC's in that photo I posted; obviously, these cars were being prepped for service, which, again, complicates the mystery, as no PCC's were ever based out of Canarsie)

Further on the 9th Avenue car house..........

In the final years of streetcar operation, not all of the many tracks remained in use.

Some of the former streetcar bays were used by repair trucks, employee parking, and for storage.

When streetcar operations ended in late 1956, the cars that had been disabled for some time were towed away for scrapping first, prior to the scrapping of cars that were still in daily service.........

This photo shows an 8000-series Peter Witt at the 9th Avenue depot, shortly before retirement in 1954.

Be sure to read the comments in the photo caption, which is interesting......

Here's an interesting photo showing the former ENY car house converted to a bus garage.

You can see some of the old tracks and line poles still in place, with rows of new MACK buses standing where streetcars once rested.

An 8000-series Peter Witt is seen passing by the former car house; the old rails that once swung into the facility from the street have since been paved over......

Circa-1956, we see CLARK-built #1000 at the W. 9th St. car house, in the company of assorted (and ancient) work equipment..........

Here's a particularly interesting (undated) photo of PCC #1045 at the 9th Avenue depot's lower level (note placard in side window)..........

In this color photo taken at the 9th Avenue depot, we have PCC #1030 nearest the camera, with another car following.

The complex, intricate overhead at car houses was also fascinating to look at........

This photo, adjacent to the 9th Avenue depot, would seem to date to about 1050.

Here, we have two PCC's and an 8000-series Peter Witt in view.......

This interesting view shows #1001 resting in the echoing gloom of the interior of the 9th Avenue depot; note, also, the large dent in #1001's dash.

When this latter-day photo was taken, it was obviously snapped during a rush hour, when most of the (operable) fleet was out on the streets.....
