Mention must be made of the stately RMS "OLYMPIC"*.......
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RMS_Olympic
*The 1911 photo here, showing the "OLYMPIC" at New York after finishing her maiden voyage, gives us an excellent image of what the "TITANIC" would have looked like, had tragedy not struck, docking at her North River pier, after her own maiden voyage...... |

The RMS "CARPATHIA"*, a noble ship which needs no introduction, to anyone familiar with the story of the "TITANIC".......

*(Tragically, this ship was torpedoed by a German submarine in 1918) |

Take a moment today to remember the hundreds of souls who lost their lives on the "TITANIC", after she sank on her maiden voyage, on this day, in 1912......

Beyond a living nightmare.......
Though, as a longtime "TITANIC" enthusiast, I have seen all of the older "TITANIC" films many times over, I had not (for some reason) seen the 1990's version starring Leonardo Di Caprio.
If I felt dread and terror during the older films, this version was almost too frightening to watch.
What made this film even MORE frightening and terrifying, is that this was NOT a FICTITIOUS story, but a re-telling of one of the worst disasters to ever occur in modern mankind.
One can actually FEEL the terror of the drowning passengers in the frigid waters, and almost FEEL the insidious creaking, groaning, and crashing as this majestic liner, this massive leviathan of the seas, was in her death throes.
Captain Edward Smith, alone in the wheelhouse as the sea crashes through the windows, engulfing him......the screaming men in the generator room, being electrocuted before the eyes of their mates.....the futile fight for survival, trying to save the children........a living nightmare....a nightmare from one could not awake from.
When the lights finally failed, plunging the sinking liner into darkness, truly had me in tremendous awe.....and a feeling of dread.
To think that such a huge, monolithic ship could simply snap like a matchstick, as terrifying as it was to watch, only further proved that NOTHING on this earth is indestructible.
How ironic that it was claimed that the "TITANIC" was "the ship that God Himself could not sink."
Footage showing the wreckage of the ship being photographed several miles beneath the surface of the freezing North Atlantic was, indeed, sobering and spell-binding, to say the least.
A truly UNFORGETTABLE and FRIGHTENING piece of filmmaking.......
