In Bob Gabrick's outstanding "GOING THE GREYHOUND WAY" there are a number of photos of the pre-743 "SUPERCOACH", namely, the "X-1" and the "719".
The "719", basically, was the "743"; note, though, the "719" featured three small rear windows (the "743" had two)
Too, if you look at the large "bug eye" windshields of the "X-1", you are reminded of the huge windshields used on the AEROCOACH.....

I can easily picture this formidable, handsome, stylish, and sleek 1935 ACF (Greyhound) wearing the smart, eye-catching colors of "INTER-CITY", "ORANGE & BLACK", or "RED & TAN", or PSNJ......

You are quite welcome!
Yes, I've seen this unusual coach before; for obvious reasons, I've dubbed it "the backwards/forwards 4104"; the rearward-slanting windows give the bus the look of a bus in an animated cartoon, when the driver slams on the brakes, and you would see the body slant rearwards!
Seriously, I agree; I am also reminded a bit of the MACK 97-D.
Regarding forward-slanting windows on highway coaches, these first became the style when they were introduced on the FLXIBLE "Clippers".
Such windows became commonplace on transit buses, with the introductions of the GM Fishbowl and the FLXIBLE New Look.
Also, PREVOST also utilized these style windows on a small group of Fishbowl-inspired transit buses for British Columbia Hydro in 1965; PREVOST highway coaches, beginning in the 1950's, ditto.......

Speaking of "imitation being the sincerest form of flattery".....
This classic 1950's PREVOST is, indeed, a virtual clone of a contemporary Flex........

That is a very brief capsule history of GLC. I doesn't tell anything about ECGL, Eastern Canadian Greyhound Lines (formerly 'Toronto Greyhound Lines)', which was developed separately, perhaps as a subsidiary of the US company, which was physically separated from the rest of GLC, until they gained the route from Sudbury to Toronto. It was headquartered in London, Onatario, and its routes were between Detroit, Windsor, London to Hamilton, Toronto, Niagara Falls, and Buffalo. |

Thanks for the link; will enjoy this later!
We often tend to overlook "curbside" loading GREYHOUND/TRAILWAYS terminals/stations, in favor of the facilities where the buses themselves (like the passengers) were sheltered from the elements.
Personally, what ever remains of The Hound's once-vast network today (not to mention lines once operated by TRAILWAYS and "regional" carriers) I feel are going to be cut back even more, or, eventually, eliminated altogether.
With AMTRAK barely beyond skeletal these days, and intercity bus lines also disappearing, we now have many areas of this country that no longer have any long-distance rail or bus transportation......a far cry from what things were like, 60 years ago......

I added a few more photo links to Pittsburgh...
As you might have guessed, , I am particularly fond of that location, with many great memories of that wonderful city, and its transportation infrastructure... |

You're the man for the following......
In the classic Gregory Peck film, "TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD", the story is set in a fictional town in Alabama, during the early/mid-1930's.
What GREYHOUND lines would have served Alabama, back in those days?
Regionals?
In Glen Campbell's autobio, "RHINESTONE COWBOY", he describes the long bus journey from Delight, Arkansas, to Casper, Wyoming, in the early 1950's, involving many transfers, and taking three days to complete.
Again, am interested what companies might Glen and his uncle might have traveled by.
From "A BUS OF MY OWN" (Jim Lehrer)......
".....TRANS STATE TRAILWAYS (in Newton, Kansas, their buses stopped at a cab stand) had gone bankrupt, trying to replace some of the Kansas routes abandoned by Greyhound and Trailways in the late 70's and early 80's....."
Any info on TRANS STATE?
As always, greatly appreciate your always detailed input......

Remember, too, that, until the 1960's, Pittsburgh was still very much a STREETCAR city, rostering the (AFAIK) then-largest fleet of PCC's in the country......
