Makes one wonder which of the older type buses each team would be comparable to today. I know the Yankees' play nowadays seems to call to mind the misbegotten Grumman 870's a.k.a. "Borough Bombers," but what would the Mets now be comparable to - Fishbowls, perhaps?

W.B.:

Good question!

Funny, with the Mets, I first and foremost think of them in terms of the WF "Bluebirds/Redbirds.

I would agree with you about the "bus equivalent" to the Mets being Fishbowls; works for me....... Wink

From today's DAILY NEWS......

".......the only people who want the Mets to take a day off are the players around the league that are probably tired to losing to them....."

"........after undressing the Cincinnati Reds 10-2 on Wednesday, the Mets have Thursday off, putting some scheduled brakes on the runaway #7 train out to Willets Point......"

Queens?

Scranton?

(in any event, it looks much older than the "1977" date given)

Check out this vintage "BASEBALL" roller sign........

Certainly looks more like from an old streetcar . . .

W.B.:

I don't think either one of us will ever find out just where this sign originated.

Looks to be from the 40's/50's.

Speaking of Scranton, there was a great feature in BUS WORLD magazine years ago, on Scranton's WHITES (they were still using various models into the early 1970's); interestingly, they were replaced by second-hand Old Looks from "Joisey" (PSNJ)........ Wink

.....it would be interesting to compare ridership numbers, regarding "Bombers" fans who traveled by SURFACE/MaBSTOA buses to Yankee Stadium back in the day, to current MTA ridership numbers, on lines serving the Stadium, during baseball season.....

........the Amazin' NY Mets just clobbered Philly (6-0), taking the series, while the "Bombers" bombed yet again.

While Mets fans have certainly been rejoicing as of late, Yankees fans are wondering when the bloodletting will end.......

It could be argued that the recent trades set the Yanks off on this downward path. After all, they had been doing well up to that point . . .

W.B.:

Good point to consider.....it is worth thinking about.

Speaking of baseball, one wonders what "Noo Yawk" team did Brooklynites switch loyalty to, after a certain Mr. Walter O' Malley took "Dem Bums" out to the West Coast (recall, the Mets would not be around for some years, yet).....

.......though we all know that the "pendulum" indeed forever swings back and forth in the world of baseball, it is still quite a "wakeup call" when a team that has been "running hot" for some time suddenly is confronted with a formidable "reality check". Sad

This evening, the "red hot" Mets not only ran out of steam, but were CLOBBERED by Atlanta; and, to add insult to injury for "Noo Yawk" fans, the "Bombers" (guess what?) bombed out again. Sad

Even to the most uneducated "armchair" baseball fan, the volatility in the sport, on so many levels, is most formidable.

Oh, well, there's always hope for tomorrow......

.....well, the Mets have now lost two games in a row, while the Yankees continue their downward slide......it's like someone is "jinxing" both "Noo Yawk" teams.....and, to think, the Mets were smoking hot just a few days ago. Sad

No happy Yankee or Mets fans in "Noo Yawk" tonight, for sure. Crying or Very sad

"NYO"

(Maybe it's me, but, I have long felt that if EITHER the Yankees or the Mets win in ANY game, "Noo Yawk" fans should simply be happy that a "LOCAL" team won.

Of course, this personal philosophy of mine doesn't apply to the "Subway Series"...... Rolling Eyes

.....last evening, the Mets won, the Yankees won, so, I'm guessing fans of both "Noo Yawk" teams are in a good mood, at least for the moment..... Wink
