When thinking of vintage buses "down under", one does not generally think of a WHITE 798...... Wink

Down in Australia, you generally do not expect to find a SILVERSIDES (SILVERSIDES once ran in "GREYHOUND PULLMAN" service, "down under", many years ago)....

Reflections:

It amazing to think, that, at one time, long ago, that GREYHOUND was such a far-flung company, that it extensively operated buses not only in the United States, but, also, Canada, Australia, the Middle East, and, for a brief time, even in Africa.

Recall, also, that GREYHOUND shipped retired SCENICRUISERS and 4104's over to Korea for further service (KOREA GREYHOUND)

Today, of course, it is obvious that the past several decades have not been at all kind to "The Hound"; so many areas once served by the company's big buses are now devoid of virtually any sort of public transport (AMTRAK, too, has greatly cut service in so many areas, over the past few decades)

A little classic, "Elvis Prseley", now, if you please......

"You ain't nuthun' but a Hound Dog"...........aaahh, what glories there once were......

This is an EXCELLENT example of "Western influence" in the East; this vintage photo, showing a "KOREA GREYHOUND" Scenicruiser, along with a dapper, American-style driver (suitably attired!) and pert, uniformed hostess is truly timeless.

Ironic, too, that so many of my vintage tin friction toy SCENICRUISERS (made in Japan) often have a "hostess" opposite the driver! Wink

How we all took "pride in appearance" for granted.....

Check out this interesting vintage ad for KOREA GREYHOUND; note that the lone 4104 (surrounded by SCENICRUISERS) is facing in the opposite direction!

This one is a HOOT! Shocked

https://www.streamingmeemee.com/index.php/2014/12/04/greyhound-bus-korea-circa-1950/

I cannot believe just how much this colorful, front-engined Korean bus resembles an oversized Japanese tinplate toy of the 1950's and early 1960's! Shocked

Note, in particular, the "Running Dog" on the side of this colorful, oversized tinplate toy..... Wink

Here's an old "KOREA GREYHOUND" ticket, depicting a SCENICRUISER and a 4104, stamped 1975......

From "GREYHOUND SCENICRUISER" (McNally/Rayman).......

".......Greyhound's new Far East joint business venture was known as 'Korea Greyhound'. A total of approximately 40 buses were then overhauled in San Francisco, painted in the red stripe livery, and shipped to Korea......."

".......this new overseas fleet included both PD-4104's and PD-4501's...."

.....interesting to think, that, by the time that SCENICRUISERS began operating in Korea, they were already becoming passe here in the States, finding themselves more and more in the shadow of the new MCI coaches.

Of course, in Korea, the traveling public was not used to luxury highway coach travel as Americans were at that time, so the iconic SCENICRUISERS (and even the 4104) gave them a glimpse of what was commonplace in the United States.

These buses might very well have been the first American-built buses to run in Korea.

The Korea operation was also unique, in that it was GREYHOUND's only overseas operations to use SCENICRUISERS and 4104's........
