W.B;

What "background info" can you provide on the one still from the "TZ" episode where we see the intersection with the Old Look, Fishbowl, and SURFACE Mack?

Any idea of what routes those buses might have been operating on, or where the intersection was?

At any rate, the Fishbowl had to be pretty new at the time (the newest of the autos/cabs in the photo seem to be from about 1962)

Thanks for any info....

I seem to remember it was around early 1963 we began seeing the dark green color scheme for MaBSTOA buses as was in that shot taken facing south on Fifth Avenue with 42nd Street shown. Had to have preceded the first of the "made-for-MaBSTOA" Fishbowl order (3301-3555), of which Amsterdam and 132nd Street would have gotten within the middle of that range - the former depot the first half, the latter the second.

W.B.:

In the TZ episode "Cavender Is Coming" (starring Carol Burnett) the Fishbowl used in the episode (from the Culver City fleet) was still virtually "showroom new" when that episode was filmed.....

Thanks, as always, for your input!

The SURFACE Mack had to be getting a wee bit "long-in-the-tooth" by the time that "TZ" episode aired in the early 1960's.

Then, too, that ACF-BRILL IC-41 and the other vintage highway coach......

Earlier, I mentioned the 1950's mechanical "ROBOT BUS" (made in Brooklyn, USA!) that I've had in my archives for many years...... Wink

Sure looks like this "Dashing Dan" has decided to eschew the LIRR for New York City Omnibus...... Wink

One of my all-time favorite actors, Jason Robards, with Fishbowl #3701*, on the streets of "Noo Yawk", in 1965's "A THOUSAND CLOWNS"....... Wink

One of the first 149 (3601-3749) out of the 350-bus order for the 'Tee-Yay' from 1963 that was allotted to 126th Street 'MAN' depot. Sounds like with all those (plus 1960 Fishbowls in the 500's), there would've been no room for any of the 165 'Dangerfields' ordered in 1964, no?

The first bus screencap was of a Yellow 718 from 1935, one of the first which showed 'NEW YORK CITY OMNIBUS CORPORATION' on the sides rather than 'MADISON AVENUE COACH COMPANY, INC.' or 'EIGHTH AVENUE COACH CORPORATION'.

The second, a GM TD-4506 from 1946.

No doubt both repainted.

W.B.:

Great info; thanks for sharing! Wink

Recall, how we've been talking a great deal on the often-ignored "Dangerfields".......think about this; back in the Fishbowl era, we saw far more of the Fishbowls than we ever saw of the "Dangerfields", in the "Noo Yawk" films of that time.

And, of course, especially back in the 70's, no survival-minded filmmaker was looking to spend too much time in "Da Bronx", if it could be at all helped........

MaBSTOA's 132nd St. yard (1972).......and, as you can see, not a "Dangerfield" in sight.........

Came across this scene from "GANG WARS", 1975; note the "Em-Tee-Yay" Dangerfield in the background......
