This one literally came out of left field. The busfan community only found out this morning (4/23) from NY1.
Andy Byford held a press conference, where it was announced that the The MTA would be testing an Alexander-Dennis Enviro500, the "SuperLo" variant that is low-floor and is about 12 feet 10 inches high. The upper level has a headroom of about 5 feet 7 inches, which meant my skull was touching the ceiling. The Enviro500 will be based out of Charleston depot in Staten Island and relegated to the express lines that run via the Lincoln Tunnel, with the X17J being the big kahuna. Also announced was the implementation of a tap SmartCard in 2020.
The bus was displayed at 2 Broadway, along with Proterra BE40 #0019 and Xcelsior XE40 #0012.
This bus is a prototype built for GO Transit, with GO Transit specifications. It means there is no farebox in front, next to the driver. Instead, as you will see in the photo, the fairbox will most likely be behind the front right wheel.

Interesting...thanks for posting...
Personally, I would much rather drive or ride in a Prevost or MCI commuter bus than that sardine can...I dislike the Megabus VanHool DD's as well... |

That low overhang in the front may have some issues with some of NY's street surfaces. |

I suspect FACCO double deckers had disappeared because they probably were quite slow to load and unload. I have to believe this same situation exists today.
I suppose SI express buses would not have exactly the same problem as the old FACCO buses did.
The main argument on their behalf likely is high capacity with a compact street footprint.
However, artics have high capacity and they load/unload much more quickly.
Those routes that can handle them |

Agree, great photography!
Those "guard rails", on the front corner's of the bus, remind me of the buses plying the narrow roads of Bermuda, where buildings come right to the edge of the traffic lanes... |

I took a video back in the beginning of May where I recorded the whole X17J ride from Midtown to Staten Island on the top floor:
