All:
Though school buses are seen throughout the five boroughs in great profusion, it is nearly impossible to find vintage photos where school buses share a photo with a transit bus.
Indeed, it is a great example of the proverbial "needle in a haystack"!
After quite a lengthy search, I WAS able to find this one photo, dating back to 1981 (161st & Elton)
A "fleeting moment", without a doubt.....

"TRIFECTA"
Though a bit off-topic for this thread, this photo was too good not to include here!
Taken at Bowery & Mott, back in 1981, a trio of now-classic buses, representing several operators (GRAY LINE, SHORT LINE, MTA), "buddy up" for the camera.......

A colorful BRONXVILLE Old Look, along with a 4106 and a Fishbowl, are seen sharing the yard with now-classic school buses in this 1975 view.......

Many thanks for your latest contribution!
HAVE to forward this to my school bus-drivin'; buddy upstate....he's sure to be quite interested!
In regards to the old Brooklyn photo I posted yesterday; if you are not sure if CBS ever operated REO buses, then, perhaps, the bus behind the streetcar was operated by a private outfit?
IMHO, school buses were.....and are......a vital part of New York's daily pulse, and, it is sad to think that virtually no pictures exist of them, during thier many, many years of plying the streets of The Big Apple, carrying youngsters to and from school.
Surely, there HAD to be school bus enthusiasts in New York, even though they must have been very much in the minority......

NYO,
Here is just about everything I have on Children's Bus Service.

Mr. "L":
Is there no end to the rare treasures you pull out of your seemingly-bottomless "magician's hat"?
This is indeed a rare slice of bus history....New York SCHOOL bus history.....an aspect of "transport" in the city that is seldom, if ever, documented, in any form or fashion
Thanks again!
"NYO"
BTW:
Any info on that bus in the 1930's South Ferry photo?

In the mid-1950's I rode a White school bus every day. It was a model similar to this, however, I think the one in this picture might be just a bit newer.

Hankg42:
Appreciate your contribution; historic school bus items such as this are sadly seen far too infrequently these days.
Growing up in the early/mid-60's in NJ, the thing that always sticks out in my mind where the rounded rear roofs commonplace at the time on school bus bodies; it was not too many years hence that this gave the buses a "dated" appearance, but it was a style that, nonetheless, was attractive.
From my files comes this circa-early 50's photo from Brooklyn, showing a PCC streetcar passing a FORD transit bus.
Note the small red light above the rear windows; could this signify that the bus also saw school service?
Nostalgic photo, nonetheless......

For many years, PSNJ also provided school trips; this photo (Hoboken Terminal, 1972) shows J308 equipped with school flashers.
This was a common sight in NJ right through the TNJ era......

Another picture of a PS bus at Hoboken (circa-1955); note the small lights front and rear.....perhaps these were also school lights?

Right you are! 1950's would be the correct era. I will edit and fix it.
Of course, sometimes I feel 963 years old!
