I have some very sad news to pass along. I received a message from Hawk Operator 10's wife yesterday. He passed away September 2 following a long illness. As many of you know, he was a bus operator for the former Queens Surface Co. His valuable contributions will be sorely missed.
He wanted to say he'll be waiting for us all at the last stop on the road to get together again, and "live long and prosper."

It is with profound sorrow that we must record the passing of our esteemed member Hawk Operator 10.
I am certain that I speak for all when I convey our most sincere sympathies to his family.
He was important to us and will not be forgotten.
Rest in peace Hawk.

Wow - very sad. He will be missed in the online bus enthusiast community. My condolences to his family and friends.
One of the downsides of having online friends is that when people drop off the boards for a while, you sometimes just assume they're busy and they'll be back. It's a shock to suddenly hear that someone has passed when you had no idea they were sick.

He had said back in July that he would be away for a few months to attend to a "family crisis." Not many people knew of his illness. |

Very sorry to hear the sad news as I had no idea he was ill. I thought he was a young guy still on the job. He will certainly be missed. |

I think it would be an excellent idea for us to celebrate the lives of those members who have passed on by retaining their names in our membership roster and noting their demise.
We should also think about creating an 'In Memorium' list somewhere on the board as a continual reminder of the good friends that we have met that are now gone.
I think it's the least we can do.

Well this really was a blind side hit. I think I can speak for everyone when I say Hawk was well liked on the BusTalk boards. He always had something to contribute.
Rest In Peace Hawk Operator 10- You Will Be Missed.
My condolences to his family and friends.

This is indeed sad news. Although I didn't know Hawk Operator personally, he was one of the good guys on the boards. I appreciate how he always shared info that only insiders would know.
May Hawk Operator rest in peace. |

I hereby second that motion. It would be a fitting tribute and "thank you" to those members.
Besides Hawk 10, some of the intial inductees should be Steve Hoskins, Alan Bromberger and Dante, the kid that passed away in the hospital. |

I have no intention of removing Hawk's account.
I don't believe that Alan Bromberger was ever a BusTalk member. To add to your list, we lost Tazz last year. |

Those that read exchanges between myself & Hawk on both BusTalk II & III will remember that we got into "debates" on various issues.
I always respected his right to voice his opinion & appreciated his willingness to share his union slant on those issues. He was a proffesional, a union member & had a very specific opinion about certain of his bosses.
As a former union shop steward I got to learn first hand that there was usually two sides to an issue. Also that both sides would emblish the truth, somethine a little, sometimes a lot.
A good boss doesn't bullshit his staff & trys to work with them vs. us vs. them.
I'll miss his input on this forum ! RIP Hawk 10 |
